July 17, 2026

Real Time Information means telling HMRC about every payment to every employee on or before the day you pay them, rather than once a year. The main submission is the Full Payment Submission, which reports pay, tax, National Insurance and deductions for each employee and must reach HMRC on or before payday — not after, which is the rule people break most often. An Employer Payment Summary is sent when you have something to reclaim or report that the FPS does not cover, such as statutory pay recovery or the employment allowance, or when you have paid nobody in a month. Late FPS submissions attract penalties per month, scaled by headcount. This is entirely separate from MTD, and always has been.
