Software is very good at recording what happened and completely incapable of deciding what it means. It can see £4,000 leave your account for a van; it cannot tell you whether that is a capital allowance claim, what the private-use restriction should be, or whether buying it in March rather than April was worth £900 to you. Under MTD that gap matters more, not less, because the year-end is where your bill is actually determined and the quarterly rhythm gives you far more chances to act on a decision while it can still change the outcome. Plenty of our clients do run their own quarterly updates and bring us in for the final declaration and planning — that is a perfectly sensible split, and we will tell you if that is what you need.
